Contextual Practice - Day 1

Today wasn’t my most productive day. I made sure coming into today, that I had decided on which extension project I was going to pursue and have a well thought out idea for that project with research to back it up, as well as a check list for what I would need to complete in the coming days. The majority of the day was simply brainstorming which I didn’t feel I needed to do because I had put a lot of thought and planning into my idea over the weekend, so I didn’t utilize my time very well. In the future, I want to be sure I think of something productive to do in times like this. Doing nothing gets me nowhere, I could’ve done some visualizations or come up with back up ensembles for my shoot etc. I need to utilize all the time I am offered on this course, especially with the tight deadlines we have.

Eventually I had the opportunity to receive some feedback from the day’s tutor on my idea. The feedback was really beneficial, my idea was well received but I was advised to make sure my communication is as strong as the outfits I am presenting. I tend to have tunnel vision so to speak on aspects of projects that interest me the most. I need to be sure I focus on the entire project and not just the aspect that interests me the most.

Overall, the day wasn’t a complete waste, and I received valuable feedback that further influenced the development of my project. I learned that I can’t waste time and that I need to be a little more well rounded when it comes to executing projects. I need to look at the whole puzzle, not just one piece.

Contextual Practice - Day 2

In response to the previous day, I utilized my time very well today. I made sure I signed up for a conference with a tutor to make sure all the moving parts in my project were in good shape. Again, I got good feedback which was a signal to me that fashion communication should be a good pathway for me, as I’ve set up my project pretty much on my own and it seems to be going smoothly. After that I went charity shopping and found a couple more supplementary pieces for the shoot. I made sure I improved upon yesterday and instead of sitting and doing nothing, I asked if I could buy some items for my project. The fact that I was constantly working and improving upon my project enabled me create my best work.

After lunch, I checked in for attendance and then left to go photograph my ensembles in central London, again wasting no time waiting to be done with class where I would’ve been doing nothing productive, I utilized every bit of time I got and photographed all my looks, from Tower Bridge to Buckingham Palace. Since I finished all my photography on Tuesday, I set myself up to have all of Wednesday to edit the photos and put together a little film. I ‘m proud of my time management skills as I used to have issues with this in high school. I really think I’m improving in areas that I used to struggle in and I am very proud of myself for challenging myself with ambitious projects and executing them to the best of my ability.

Contextual Practice - Day 4

Today is the presentation day. I had finished all my work the night before, so all I had to so was print my work and set up my presentation space. Again, through my proper time management and planning, I had no bumps in the road for this project. No late night stress, no scrambling to finish, no messy work.

I made sure I got a good spot for my work where my film and photographs could be viewed properly, and in a spot where the maximum amount of people would see it. The feedback I got was very positive. I wish I got some more constructive feedback as opposed to all the compliments but affirmation always feels great! Overall, today was a great day, everything was ready on time and I left time to fine tune details so everything was perfect. I loved my exhibit set up, and everyone enjoyed my work and left me really lovely messages. I think I did my best work for this project especially in the field of planning and time management. I am very proud of myself overall.
