My response to the project brief was initially confusion. I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to create a structure that the brief had outlined. However, that was shortly quelled when we were presented with the materials we were going to use for the class and my understanding had changed. Regarding shape and structure, I didn’t have a very complex understanding of their relationship before this workshop, but now that we’ve finished, I understand the way certain shapes can create certain structures. It may be a rudimentary understanding, but its a new understanding nonetheless.
Working in a team was interesting. I enjoyed collaborating ideas wise, but I felt that me and my group mates were competing with each other to have our respective ideas at the forefront. There were a few moments where we weren’t really collaborating but just doing whoever’s idea worked the easiest, which kind of soured my interest in working as a group. However, in the end, we were able to compromise and make decisions as a group that gave us a very good outcome. Regarding our final structure, it was very successful in it’s innovative shape as well as the way were able to suspend half of it but also have the majority of it be on the ground. I think it utilized the space excellently which I believe is a hallmark of architecture. The final product reflected our project concept because it was a literal representation of what we had in mind. It is very satisfying to conceptualize an idea and be able to realize it in a completed 3-D form. If I had to change anything about my final outcome, I would’ve probably covered less of it with the tissue paper. I think our outcome was quite complex and visually interesting, and I think we covered too much of it up with the paper for sake of using the paper.
Our final outcome is a structure, we created two separate structures that are connected in the middle, visualizing a sort of futuristic housing development or exhibition space. Again, our outcome was an accurate representation of our sketch which I am really proud of because it is a testament to the strength of our idea and our ability to actually create a very conceptual structure.
