Today was an interesting workshop. I’ve never explored product design in way shape or form. I didn’t understand much about this medium, especially in the context of art. The workshop was very face paced, which at the start of this course I would’ve really struggled with, but now in week 5, I’ve adapted very quickly. The brief at the start of class was very helpful, it provided some context to what the tutors were looking for, because again, I had no frame of reference.

While working on the first product, something to hold cherry tomatoes, I saw myself heading in an accessory direction. I wasn’t surprised because most of my projects contain some sort of fashion element to them. However, in diagnostic, I think it is important to try new mediums of working that are out of our comfort zones, so I for the next assignment, design product for lemons, I decided to go in a direction I’ve never explored before. I made a sort of post modern bowl that in the end, looked exactly as I had envisioned it. I’ve never done a piece like this and it was quite satisfying to explore a new medium and have it work out in my favor. It is a testament to the diagnostic pathway because I stepped out of my usual way of working and it turned into a diverse piece for my portfolio.

Overall, I ended up enjoying this workshop. I went into it thinking I would hate it purely because I have never done it, but through experimentation I ended up learning something new and finding a new interest in product design.
