Today we had a movement workshop with choreographer Alexandra Greene. I found the whole exercise user interesting, I’ve always wanted to explore choreography in my work so the I found the workshop very enlightening. I now have a chance to think about what type of movement I want to showcase in my film. I had a conversation with Alexandra about ritual movements and she gave me some great advice and a couple of references to look at. I need to ask more questions, I find when I ask more questions to tutors or anyone with a higher understanding than myself, my work tends to be better influenced and seasoned. I plan on asking more questions in the future, especially when people like Alexandra are working with us

I’m editing my film today and once again, the trial and error of editing with software I’ve never used before has commenced. I’ve also made the wise decision to edit in a really complicated technique that is multiplying the complexity factor of this entire process. However, despite how frustrating it gets, I’m happy I’m challenging myself. I’m creating work that is upping the standards that I normally hold myself to, and my tutors are definitely seeing me push myself past my normal means not resting on a crutch of something I’m already good at.

We had a sound design workshop today. I’ve never dabbled in sound design but I’m a huge David Lynch and love his sound design work, so I was very excited for this workshop. Once again, we learned how to use a new device which I have never seen before. I can add this to the long list of skills I’ve learned already this year. I went out and recorded some sounds but nothing I’ll use in my film, I was enjoying just being experimental. I think I need to be more experimental in general with my work, I usually avoid experimentation because I try to stick to a rigid schedule with my work as we have quick deadlines, but if I allowed myself to experiment more, I think I could come up with more original ideas and have fun with my work which I find myself missing frequently.

Today I had a progress tutorial but I also had to shoot my footage. Shooting my footage was miserable because it was raining and I was ill equipped for the mud at Hampstead Heath. I filmed my footage myself with a tripod. It took a lot of trial and error as I had to make the sound track loud enough so I could move to it but the computer had to be far enough away so it wasn’t in the shot. I also had to mark out three spots so I could move for three separate takes without crossing over the other figures, this is for the cloning effect I’m using for the final edit. It took a lot of tries and I was wet and cold but I got what I needed and it was received well at my progress tutorial. Hard work pays off, it may get uncomfortable but if you stick through it a good result will be received.
